Well they never could come up with 1 nickname that fully said how good a player Dick Butkus was but they did try The Enforcer, The Maestro of Mayhem, The Robot of Destruction, and The Animal. But just saying Dick Butkus was enough to scare most players into submission back in those days.

Rod "He hate me" Smart. It was on his jersey in the xfl and that was HOW it became his nickname. Also the reason everyone watched him, it was a great promotional thing. Heck I'm not sure he would have made the NFL on talent, it was the sales of saying we have He Hate Me that really helped him.

I like Jerome Bettis... Like sitting o23s said
"The Bus"
That's a cool nickname... I like Light out too... and Shawne Merrimen's tatoo with burning lightr switch LOL
But in all the sports history, I like The Freak... Jevon Kearse...
Look at the name THE FREAK>>>
2nd choice is "Thhe Juice" OJ Simpson
My third is Elroy :Crazy Legs" Hirsch
And that freaky name guy with the Packers I know the first part of the name is gjaba or something... I think he still plays... The name it self is kinda like the nickname...

Everyone who said "Ocho Cinco" got a thumbs down because the question asked for the coolest nickname, not the lamest.
I've always been a fan of Reggie White's nickname: "The Minister of Defense".

He Hate Me is classic, I remember seeing him play against the SF team in Pac Bell Park...the most descriptive would be 'Joe Cool' (Montana) because when it came down, he was the coolest quarterback under fire in the league...

An old one but I've always liked "The Fridge" from the 1985 Chicago Bears.

I am rather partial to "The Playmaker" and "Deuce Deuce"...but they are retired...of course the final piece of the tiplets was none other than "Eight Ball"
Eight Ball is rather amusing when you think about the issues that the Playmaker had...
