Intuition is born in us. It's our sixth sense. That funny prickly little feeling at the back of your neck. That feeling that something is wrong or right or whatever the case may be. That little voice that tries to warn you when you're making a mistake. It's your instinct. Too many people ignore it & get into trouble. We need to listen to it & be in tune with it. It's there to help us. Some people have a stronger intuition than others. Some people are actually psychic & can see into the future. But even the rest of us have the ability to pick up on things. We get a "feeling" about something that's going to happen.
We usually have some idea what's going on but often refuse to see it (for instance people that marry a violent person or a philanderer & claim that they never saw it coming.) The signs are always there. We have to pay attention to them.

Insight is the fullest form of an intuition of subliminal hint, recognition, idea. The concept refers to a "lightning calculation", performed by a mind who has been studying a problem, immersing itself in details, thinking on the left side of the brain. Then by setting the problem aside, "sleeping" on the question, or simply ignoring it, the intuitive or right side of the brain comes up with a connection or pathway to a solution which had been missed or had not been understood before.
This leap of insight has to be checked, whether it's a simple intuition or an important new idea, checked back against reality and thought about logically. But the break-through itself is a product of the mind's ability to deal with multiple factors even when conscious attention is not being focused directly upon that problem at the time.
It can be as simple as a 'feeling' that something is about to happen, is subtly wrong, is not the way it's supposed to be, is possible despite appearances to the contrary, etc.

the origin of intuition is repetitive behavioral occurences relating to consequential effects.
its role is to give us a foresight of what possible consequences may occur given that we took an action to that certain act, event, or decision.
