TIP THE GREETER!!!!! Wow, who knew???
I've been shopping there for years and have never once even thought about doing so! I wonder if that makes me a "bad" person?? LOL
I'd love to sit here and write you my opinion on this subject but sweetie, you've given me something new to do. I'm going to go out to my neighbourhood Walmart and complete an application form to become a Greeter.
If you wonder about tipping them, then I'm sure other people have thought about it too. I want to get dibs on my position at the door and I'll make a fortune. I can assure you I'm super nice and also friendly (for real) and don't wear diapers. (YET) LOL
Cute question ... you have a super sense of humour!! Keep us all smiling!

LOL, I have never tipped the greeter at walmart, I didnt even know they would take tips. The last time I was at walmart the greeter was leaning against a wall by the door staring into space and not saying a word.

You are obviously American. Here in UK we do not tip greeters at Asda-Walmart. In USA there seems to be a regulated rate for tipping & a list of people who must be tipped. Here we only tip someone if we feel we have received a good service but even then there is no regulated amount or percentage that has to be paid. It is up to the individual if they tip, who they tip & how much.

One Walmart greeter I knew flashed her breasts for five cents a time. After a couple of hours' work, she was able to buy a kite and spend the rest of the day on the beach.

From what I understand, this is a person paid to welcome you into the shop, is that right? He gets paid for a rather easy job (although, I'm sure 'greeters' would protest that there are hidden challenges to the job and it's really quite tough). Plus, I believe that Walmart is a budget supermarket, therefore if you frequent that store, you're likely to be on the look-out for bargains to stretch your own wage a little further. Personally, I would thank him/her for opening the door for me and leave it at that.

A friendly smile and a kind word. We know the greeters at our WalMart and we
usually stand and talk and catch up on stuff. They are nice people.

As a matter of fact, I tried holding a tin, but people kept spitting in it and it made the coins slimy and difficult to pick out.

Give the guy spare loose change and wear gloves so he does not drool on your hands. If its that bad, bring an umbrella along with you and maybe a rain coat and wellies too???
Have fun!
