As far as phone calls, that depends on the consultant. When people request samples from me I do one follow-up phone call, that's it. I am not pushy, just following up. Also, I think nothing of sending samples out and don't require any purchases. I usually add those people to my mailing list.
If you need anything, feel free to email me.
Like I said, though, every consultant conducts their business differently, so I can't speak for anyone else.

Most Mary Kay consultants will give you free samples. They will probably want to call on you to see how you liked your sample and get your opinion. Any feed back on the product helps, positive or negative.
I have not found many consultants that were extremely pushy, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. If a consultant does not respect your wishes, she is not the Consultant you seek. Of course, Consultants are in the business of selling the product and some can become overzealous.
If you are concerned about contacting one, may I suggest you contact one by email first. Then if they don't have contact with you in the way you would like to be contacted, you can BLOCK them. :o)
I hope this helps.

Yes Mary Kay Consultants give out free samples it is a try before you buy company that is all part of our service even the skin care class are all free and try before you buy you should never feel obligated to purchase.
As for the annoying phone calls you hit a sore spot for me personally I know everyone is different so I am not speaking for all consultants just me.
When I give a sample I call or email to see how the person like it and get her opinion. At that time I find out her interest in Mary Kay products when someone tells me no thank you then I am done it is when you say maybe and then never answer the phone that the calls become annoying and trust me they are just as annoying to me as the person who never says no thank you. I am spending time and money to follow up because that is part of my service as a customer I was very busy and LOVED when my consultant called me that is part of the service so if you make you wishes clear to your consultant and she doesn't respect them then I apologize for Mary Kay because we should never bother anyone who doesn't want our service.

Most Mary Kay consultants have samples on hand and can send them to you right away. Generally we like to call to follow up to see how you like the product. There is no pressure to buy the products. If you do chose to buy something and later decide you don't love it everything is 100% backed by the company.
I would recommend finding a consultant that is local to you so that you can try several of the products together at a personal makeover session. Not to say that you have to use only a local consultant but sometimes its nice to get together to try the new products and get tips directly from your consultant.

I am a former MaryKay consultant. I did give out free samples and asked if I may make a follow up call to see if they liked the product. If at that time they wished to purchase something, I was happy to take their order. If they did not with to make a purchase, I would simply ask them give me call should they change their mind. I've always hated pushy sales people and I tried never to be one.

if you request free samples, they will give them to you, and they do make free house calls.
they no not make you buy anything.
they will want to call you unless you request otherwise.
you just have to stand your ground about what you might want to buy and what you do not want to buy.
I've used the same mary kay consultant for several years, and whenever she gets a little pushy about something, I just tell her the truth. if I like a product, I tell her, and if I don't and do not wish to purchase it, I tell her that too.
just remember, you are not obligated to buy anything.
Hope this helps, and Best Wishes!
