Your computer needs to be optimized, get registry mechanic 6 to tuen-up your pc, and get a free virus scanner to get rid of the viruses........like Avast

Also, if you don't have much RAM, like say...256mb then that will cause that sound as well.

usually when it dose that its normal but if it last for 3 minutes and is going really slow its not a super big problem you need to fix rite away but you should buy some more ram memory and mabey another hard drive just to speed it up
but all it is is slow from not as much free space
dont stress over it man because all computer make this noise exept laptops

Sounds to me like it's your HDD. My suggestion is for you to backup all your files just to be in the safe side before things go worse.

If you have backed up your files, I'd recommend you to take it to a local computer store for them to test the HDD. Or you can find a HDD utility / diagnostic tool on the net and do a diagnostic on your HDD.

It may be time to replace your HDD

One idea would be to clean your fans. When they're clogged up with gunk, they have to move super-fast to try to slow your system down. This movement can also be rattling other things in your box, which is bad juju.

Along with the other suggestions posted, it wouldn't be a bad idea to open up your box and blast it with some compressed air.

must be a variable speed fan inside -- when it handles a large file or something it -- it revs up to cool the computer down -- if it's really dusty or something maybe blow the dust out of the little fan vent in the back ..

Because it is, it's probably just the fans reving up high to cool it down... Depending on your processor, a core may be disabled, or speeds limited when the temperatures increase, untill they cool back down...

it might be using most of its ram. running multiple applications at the same time causes a slow down in your computer. that weird sound is probably your hard drive
