ok well like if i wanted to do an essay on school uniforms i would take a side. and my side is i think there should be school uniforms in public schools.
my thesis would say...In my opinion, school uniforms should be required in public schools
or list 3 things
School uniforms should be required in schools becuase students will focus on their work, students will get better grades, and studetns will not be bullied due to un stylish clothing.
get it? your telling someone your opinion and your thesis should be the last sentence in your intro paragraph

A thesis statement says in one sentence exactly why you are writing the paper.
If you are writing a persuasive essay with a topic such as:
Ford trucks are better than Toyota trucks your thesis would be thus:
It is therefore my intention to prove that Ford trucks are superior to Toyota trucks in every conceivable aspect.
You should always start your thesis with it is therefore my intention to prove.....DO NOT STATE "in my opinion" or "I believe" because your thesis is an attempt to prove something not just state your opinion

A thesis statement is the same regardless of the purpose of the paper. Think of it as the main idea of your essay. If you only had one sentence to sum up your entire paper, this would be it. Avoid using phrases such as 'I think' or 'I feel,' because, truthfully, it doesn't matter. You must provide evidence from outside sources to support every statement you make.
Good luck with that essay :D

A thesis statement is a one sentence statement that summarizes what you are going to be talking about in your paper. In other words, you are explaining the stance that you will be taking in regards to the issue you are persuading people to think about. For example, this was my thesis statement for a paper I did on homelessness in high school:
"....This statistic (one I gave earlier in the intro paragraph) helps demonstrate the idea that homelessness is a dilemma throughout the United States and steps should be taken in order to fix this unfortunate social phenomenon."

A thesis statement states what you are going to talk about. It gives the reader insight into the points you are going to make.
To persuade you have to take a position on something in controversy.
