Andy Murray plays for the United Kingdom, which consists of England, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland. the united kingdom is the nation, the listed above are states within.
To answer the question in the post above mine, other than being important to the nation, nationality is what determins Davis Cup teams.

So long as Andy plays great tennis and represnts Britain, why should anyone bother whether he is Brit or Scot. After all in an individual professional sport like tennis is nationality a factor at all?

Ha, I have thought the same thing. I think it will be interesting to see what will happen if Andy Murray at any point will win Wimbledon and see what the Brits do. However, that will only happen if something happens to Federer and even then Federer will still probably win somehow.

They are well aware of that fact. Problem for the UK is that they are so hungry for a champion that they will latch onto anyone who may have lived in the general vicinity of the UK in the last 25 years. They even let Greg Rusedski, born in Canada I believe, claim his mother's English citizenship just so he could play Davis Cup for them. It didn't work out. More to the point, he, Andy, shouldn't represent "England" or the "UK" because Scotland does have its own parliament again! Best of luck to you, laddy!
