The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden
* How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton
* The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

If you are brand new to online business ventures, it would at minimum, take you a year just to get a good grasp of internet marketing.
If you are in any kind of business anywhere, then you are in marketing first and foremost.

You will also note that most newbies on internet unwisely waste most of their money, time and resources in a futile attempt to master internet marketing technology. That is the reason they crash and burn.
Secondly, there is a lot of crap opportunities online.

However, you can cut the learning curve and at same time handle quality products.
You can easily test the waters, so to speak, by visiting the following link for a FREE two weeks test-drive of what online business looks and feels like.

One of my favorite things to do is read about uncommon online businesses that people have started.

http://uncommonbusiness.blogspot.com is a good one if you need to generate ideas from other people's ideas or if you just need some inspiration.

If you like that one take a look at http://selfmade.eliotdill.com for other useful information and links about starting an online business.

Good luck!

My husband and I have an online/offline retail business that might work for you. I can't give you details here since it's against the rules of this site but send me an email or check out my profile if you'd like more information.

depends on what you want to do online. If anything take a niche you like, set up a blog that pertains to that niche, add some affiliate products, add adsense, add your own products. and there you have the start of your 1st website business

Please understand that most of the top internet money makers have more then one niche and more then one site good luck

if you plan to generate revenue yes you will need a business license. first, obtain a tax id, then register with your state's dept of taxation. if you're selling tangibles you will need to put down a small deposit. if no tangibles and just service, no deposit is required. then incorporate (i.e. LLC, corporation, sole proprietor, etc.)nest a FFN (fictitious firm name filing) this will be te name of your company, voila. google for more info pertaining to your state and city

I have tried to learn it too and been learning from many sources. Check out many different forums where I find it interesting too but remember don't pay if you are asked for.... I was scammed once when someone tried to sell me his site and to be one of the members and now he is disappeared.
