The Xbox 360, unlike the PS3, does backwards compatability through emulation. This means that the software simulates being and xbox. This is the same situation as many of the SNES, GENESIS, PLAYSTATION emulators out there. The PS3 has an actual PS2 chip inside so it does hardware emulation. Because of this you download the emulator to your hard drive and run it from there. The core is a good system but in the long run if you want to want to download demos or other stuff you need the hard drive. In my opinion the extra 100 dollars is worth it.

The Core system and the Premium system contain the same Xbox 360, but the Premium bundle also contains a hard drive and a wireless controller. The Core system has a wired controller.
The Core system can not play Xbox games because Xbox games require the hard drive to play. You could buy the hard drive separately to use with the Core System, but if you are going to do that you might as well buy the Premium system.

The reason why the Xbox360 Core cannot play Xbox games out of the box is because you need a hard drive to store the Xbox software patches. The Core doesn't come with a hard drive, where the pro or premium version does.
If you buy the Core and then buy a hard drive separately, then it will work. All Xbox games require a software patch because the Xbox games are not compatible with the Xbox 360 architecture directly.

I have the core system. You have to buy the 20 gig hardrive to play the xbox games. Also you can still go online if you by one and the hardrive. The difference is that if you buy a pro you get a Xbox Xbox 360 Hard Drive (20 GB also the one you need to play xbox games), Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 Faceplate, Xbox 360 Headset, Xbox 360 Component HD-AV Cable, Xbox Live Silver membership.

the pro is what i got why waste money on the core when the pro is better and if u do get a core all u need to play xbox games on it is a hard drive or memory unit if u want to save more money then the memory unit is it and the difference is the pro comes with the console, headset, hdd, manuals, and wireless controller
and the core comes wit the console and wired controller along with the manuals and there is a small but noticeable difference on the front of the consoles like the core's cd drive and the pro's cd drive the pro has a chrome drive and the core's is white

The 360 is awesome if you buy the premium system. Don't buy the core system its just a waste of money. I wish I still had my 360 I had to sell it because I really needed the money.

get either one
the only difference between the pro and core is that you get a wireless controller and you get the harddrive but the harddrive is the reason it costs $100 more because ding ding ding the harddrive is $100 if bought seperately
