I've never agreed with that expression but it's basically saying that anything goes when it comes to love & war, you do whatever is necessary to win. But there are atrocities committed in love & war that are inexcusable, so I think it's wrong!

Well i would say that is saying that when you are in love, it is like a war, and you will do anything to win and keep the love you want so much, so it is like winning a war you will do what you have to to win it, and so they say all fair in love and war.

True love and all out war should both be total commitments. No holds barred, go for it full throttle, be in it to totally win or don't get involved at all.

It means all is fair to GET love (to me). So if someone is after your loved one, all is fair to try to get that loved one. It doesn't mean anything is fair that you do to your loved one.

it means that when we love and/or hate, sometimes we somewhat lose our ability to be totally rational, objective and/or reasonable. anything is possible and our actions can be way over the top, uncontrollable and sometimes people feel as though they can't cannot control themselves. such extreme emotions (such as love and hate) can be intoxicating and can make us act in ways we may not normally act.
