My guinea pig Wicket (aka buddy, chief, lawn mower) is just over a year old... about 14 months i believe. I planned on building him a cubes and coroplast cage with lots of room and i was wondering if he would be ok with another guinea pig. I really love guineas and i wanted some advice on whether i should get a fixed female or another male. Or if it's a good idea at all. All i know is that he's growing out of his starter cage and i need to get a bigger one or make one. Also... he used to be a little spazzy when we first got him but he's mellowed out quite a bit. Any feedback would be great.
thanks
Renae

It all depends on the gp's, I have 3 males(not fixed) living together and one that just doesn't get along with everyone else. I would suggest getting another younger male, just be prepared to keep them in different cages if they don't get along. And c&c cages are great cause you can house them side by side, they can still see/smell/communicate with each other but no fights! Check out this site, it can answer some questions for you.

That is great that you're buildinghim a coroplast cage. I jsut built one for 3 of my girls and theylove it! Now, guinea pigs, especially males love other guinea pigs, but even a fixed female might get angry at him if he attempts to court her. The best bet is two fixed males or both a fixed male and fixed female. I have 3 boys that live apart, not fixed, and they can run around together, but not in the same cage! And my non fixed females hate the boys. So fixing them is the best bet and keep building that cage, they will love it!

Yes you can. But several things to keep in mind. introducing a new pig can make him insecure and he may fight for his space. Make sure there is plenty with two places to hide so each pig can hide. You may also want to invest in a second water bottle. Introduce them and dont pick them up for a day ro so. Let the new guy adjust and find his way around. Also, dont get a girl. Youll have more pigs than you know what to do with in a few weeks. Just give plenty of love and attention after the adjustment period.
My fiancee and I have 9 together, living in a huge pen that takes up half a bedroom. The were bought 2 at a time then babies came along from a pig we bought pregnant. They all get along though now so it is entirely possible. Have fun!

Two adult males that have never met will not do well together.Other than that any other combination will be fine.
If you get a baby male that will be fine or a fixed female should be fine as well.

He'll have a lot of room to roam in New Guinea.
