Many tank bags will work. Riding on the tank is a warm and relatively safe place compared to other locations on you or your motorcycle. If she/he is secured in the bag it could by far be the safest place in case of accident. You can still leave a space unzipped for them to poke their head out. And if the dog is ok with it and you are not worried she/he can just ride in the bag with it open. I would not carry a dog in one of those carriers simply because of the risk to the dog in an accident. I have transported a Pit Bull in a tank bag From Lake Almanor, CA to Salem, OR in November almost non-stop. She slept most of the way. She had never been on a motorcycle... 6 weeks old and now she's 6 months and always hangin round the bike ready for another ride

I would not take a young puppy around other dogs even in a pet carrier until it has completed all it's shots. Socializing is very important but you can do it by having friends,family and young children come to your house and interact with the pup until vaccinations are complete.

use to carry the dog..made a wire cage out of 6mm steel rod with a door at the back..& mounted it like a pannier on the side of the bike...
Ply wood bottom slipped in for him to sit/stand on...
had a cover made of canvas that slipped over the top & tied down for when it was cold or wet..
total cost was about $15...but that was about 30 years ago...probably cost you $50 now....lol
Dog loved it wanted to get in every time I went for a ride..

I saw a guy carrying a dog on his sportbike once. He had some kind of box mounted to the top of his backpack, this was a really, really small dog, and it was peaking its head out. lol!

I used to ride with kittens in my saddlebags.
When they jumped out and ran away, I stuffed the last one in my leather jacket. She liked that and poked her head out near the collar. We continued to be riding buddies for a while after that. It was a great icebreaker for picking up chicks.
