I know they do it to breed, but my betta doesn't have a heater yet, and i read that they won't breed unless the temperature is warmer. So why do they make bubblenest when the condition isn't right for them to breed?

The best answer to that is it just goes to show you that what we as fish keepers think is right and what the fish think is right can be two totally different things.

He's ready to breed, no matter what a book or website may say about it.

He's ready to breed! they dont neccesarily have to have a heater. we have two at my house. mine is in a big 5 gal with an oto cat and a shrimp. hes a lot more actvie and happier than my moms who is in a bowl. but both of ours make the nests. it is normal
