Why do people say "Bless you" instead of "God bless you"? I mean, do they have the authority to bless someone?

The entire reason anyone started to even say "God Bless You" then shortened it to "Bless You" is that when we sneeze, our heart stops for a split second and years ago people would say this as they wanted to make sure you would be okay.

The real answer to your question looks like the answer would probably be "no" unless they were ordained but as human beings we care about each other and we pray for one another and saying "Bless You" is a way of prayer.

Long ago, people believed that many ailments were caused by demonic posession-for example, a cold. They believed that when you sneezed, you expelled demons, thus you were blessed. Anyone seeing or hearing someone sneeze would say "Bless you!"-sort of cheering them on.

well from what ive heard... it all originated waay back in the day like 2000 years ago... when people didnt know about medicine... whenever you got sick or something, people would assume it was a demon that was hurting you and stuff so whenever u sneezed people would say 'bless you' as to bless you, like to keep the demon out of you
