Actually not since a year ago. It makes for learning the sport on your own in an exceptional manner. I do not resurface or polish my mid-range priced bowling balls for that purpose. Only my high performance high end equipment do I clean religiously due to prevention of damage to the coverstocks.
By not polishing, resurfacing or buffing my bowling equipment for practice, the oil residue gives it a different feel every week on different lane surfaces. It forces me to adjust more often and I also get to experiment with various shots too.
Anyways, when I practice on a house open play lane, there is not enough oil on it to track all over my equipment. If you ask me, I think people exaggerate when they "wipe" down their equipment. It's just for show..... If you bowl on a PBA lane condition, the oil WILL show, so that's why the pros always wipe their equipment down. I've experienced flooded lanes and long oil patterns..... Not pretty.
