Interesting question.
I am perhaps a very god watcher of films, for instance.
But the first time through appreciating the director's work in a film, I am absorbed in seeing what he wanted me to see. So I undoubtedly miss many subtle details here and there. The second time through, knowing what's coming, I probably see background and details I missed the first time. By the third time, I am able to appreciate the film better than during any subsequent showing; and once again, I'm still discovering subtle details and priorities I might have not noticed sufficiently the first time--and the second...
