This is very unusual. I would think morally it is wrong..but why did the couple agree to this? I would have never want anyone to air my laundry in the middle of a church service.

It is most certainly not rite. I however have no problem with the action of the pastor. I am one who believes people should live their lives as if someone is always watching them. I think the world would be a much better place if everyone acted as if they were being observed at all times. Crime would be down drastically, individuals would be more pleasant to one another, values would be upheld in even the most tempting situations, and people would not have to lie about or hide things they do from the world. Perhaps that is what heaven is like. The girl was pregnant. I am assuming her boyfriend impregnated her. They sinned according to church doctrine, everyone they know realizes this, the pastor made an example of them, and hopefully some other members of the church will learn something from this couple's bastard child.

I'm a roman catholic and it would suffice to confess privately, i have never heard of this being done or any sin being shouted out to the public. That is purely demeaning and denigrating and it seems that pastor should be confessing what he did. When you confess its between you, the priest, and God - that's it.
Today's gospel has to do with a situation like the one you described:
Gospel
Jn 8:1-11
Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
But early in the morning he arrived again in the temple area,
and all the people started coming to him,
and he sat down and taught them.
Then the scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman
who had been caught in adultery
and made her stand in the middle.
They said to him,
“Teacher, this woman was caught
in the very act of committing adultery.
Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such women.
So what do you say?”
They said this to test him,
so that they could have some charge to bring against him.
Jesus bent down and began to write on the ground with his finger.
But when they continued asking him,
he straightened up and said to them,
“Let the one among you who is without sin
be the first to throw a stone at her.”
Again he bent down and wrote on the ground.
And in response, they went away one by one,
beginning with the elders.
So he was left alone with the woman before him.
Then Jesus straightened up and said to her,
“Woman, where are they?
Has no one condemned you?”
She replied, “No one, sir.”
Then Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you.
Go, and from now on do not sin any more.”
So there is your answer- straight from the bible. I would love someone to show this to that pastor!!!

is this what the couple wanted to do? If so, then it's okay.
If it was the pastor's idea, maybe someone should complain. Church elders or other officials can help get a pastor sent on to some other church. Get the congregation to all complain together.
I think it's appalling!

I could never understand who there confessing to even in a box . Why do people think that a preacher that is no closer to God then you or I am . More humiliating then any thing .It was not a good thing. The preacher was using that person as for an example and not thinking of there feelings. Sounds like the devil himself to me

No, this is not right! What good can possibly come from publicly humiliating someone? This pastor sounds like a real control freak and an absolute creep. The best way to handle this would have been to follow Jesus' example by keeping his mouth shut and loving this couple unconditionally.

The couple need only confess to each other. God needs no confession, he knows everything anyway.
If the couple know what they did was wrong and repent then god will forgive them. Hopefully they can forgive each other.
Possibly God will forgive the Pastor, but only if he repents.

the couple have sinned against God...they are accountable to God alone...asking God's forgiveness and confessing your sins directly to HIM is the most proper thing to do...any human being subordinate to God has no right whatsoever, just like what the pastor has done.

How Christian do you think it is for someone in a position of leadership to get off on a power trip by humiliating two human beings by exposing their private life? Think ahead to the kick he's getting and counting on for future guilt trips to get people to do his crazy bidding.
