Are you supposed to pronounce it speSIES or speSHES?
in other words with an s sound or with a sh sound?

According to dictionary.com it can be pronounced either way. spee-sheez, spee-seez

Depending on your region you may pronounce it "spee-sheez", or "spee-see" either way is considered correct according to www.dictionary.com
