Well, that all depends. Check your cables connecting the harddrive to the motherboard, also check the power cables, make sure they are securely plugged in.

There could be an incompatability issue, your harddrives could be IDE, and your motherboard cables could be SATA/PATA, but you would know that, seeing as they would not plug in correctly.

Check jumpers on your harddrives also, the default is cable select, but for 2 of them , you will need to configure them so there is a master, and a slave. Also make sure the IDE/SATA/PATA cables reflect whether or not the drive is a master or a slave.

Also, is your computer passing POST? It could be a motherboard issue, as harddrives are not a requirement to pass post. You need a CPU, RAM, Video Adapter, and a correctly functioning motherboard.

If your computer is not passing post, and your harddrives are not being detected, you will get errors like "No hard disk detected" If you are getting errors like "unmountable boot volume" you need to use chkdsk to fix your boot sectors.
