starting fresh in WoW got any pointers on race/class selection?

As of right now, the two easiest ways to get into WoW are probably a Draenei Hunter (racial healing spell for the Draenei, plus Hunters are still quite powerful) or a Blood Elf Warlock (Blood Elves get that mana-capture ability, and Warlocks are also extremely powerful). The Hunter would be easier to solo with at the beginning, but a properly-played Warlock is an absolute beast when you get to endgame.
As far as professions, the Hunter might be best off with skinning/leatherworking, and the Warlock could take mining/gemcrafting.

depends what ur planning to do really. r u planing on player vs player or focus on player vs enviroment?
for beginners i'd suggest warlock and if ur PVP focused, i'd say go with undead. One advice tho, if u chose a class that has somesort of healing ability, u will most likely be asked to be a healer at some stage. So if healing is not ur thing. don't choose a class with any type of healing ability. Hunter's pretty good too.

Turn back now and save your life. It ruled my life for almos 2 years. If you must.. A good beginning class would be a warrior, shaman, or paladin. Shaman/Paladin first because you can heal yourself (single most important thing in the game). You can also cast spells/auras/totems and do hand to hand damage. Warrior might be a bit more difficult at first, because they are sought after for groups. Every dungeon group HAS to have a warrior to succeed. They may expect you to know things that you arent very good at yet (because you dont have alot of group experience). Horde/Alliance, it is your choice dont matter much.
