For example, do you have a bachelor's or higher and working as a salesperson at a retail store or as a waiter in a restaurant? If so, do you feel like your degree was a waste or your job is kind of beneath you?

I won't say a degree is a waste of time, but college does not value ones intelligence in the job market. A degree helps you get your foot in the door and can be a huge benefactor when determining salary and or management capabilities. If a job is beneath you then you have nobody to blame but yourself for keeping the position. I am not sure what the current job market is in your immediate geographical location, but people with college degrees should be able to work just about anywhere entry level.

Right after college I applied to a bunch of places, including for sales and waitressing jobs. I got turned down for a bunch of those! Ouch. It has felt like a waste at times, even though I feel like it made me a more educated person also. Right now I'm going back to school for a post-degree certificate, something that is specific and definitely needed by employers, unlike my degree!

Definately. I have a degree in marketing and I'm working at a customer service job (for an internet based company). I can't picture myself doing this job forever, but I need the money.
