While shooting technical foul shots, how come no other players are allowed on the same side of the court as the shooter? Actually this seems to put the shooter at a disadvantage, because the shooter is now in a pressure situation with all eyes on him shooting the free throws.

A technical foul means that a team receives 2 free throws plus that team gets to keep the basketball after those 2 shots. Because that team gets the ball immediately after their shots there is no need for rebounding so no players are on that half of the court. Plus, truthfully, if a whole stadium is watching a player shoot free throws, another 4 people won't make any real difference.

JRM's explanation is correct, but for your information, a technical foul entitles the aggreived team to only ONE free throw. He must be referring to a flagrant foul, which is worth two free throws plus possession.

I dunno in spite of if it pissed me off whilst Chauncey overlooked that. EDIT: that is now Nuggets vs. Hornets, sport 4, and that i'm proud to assert Chauncey Billups made a technical unfastened throw. Lol.
