I was paid a certain amt. for 8 hrs. of wk., but now my employer has determined our wk. day to be 8 1/2 hrs.
& is paying me the same amt. This makes my hrly. rate less. Is this legal in Texas? I work 34 hrs. per wk. now (instead of 32) for the same amt. of money. Please help.

Contact the Texas Department of Labor and discuss your case with them. If you signed any contracts when you went to work for them make sure you have those on hand when you call.

I am not certain about texas law, but here is the first question:
Are you a exempt employee? this means you have accepted a position a position that is salary, which means they do not have to pay you for every hour you work andthey do not have to pay you overtime. If you are not aware of your status, I would assume you are an non-exempt employee. I would contact your company's HR representative. If you do not have one, contact the labor board in Texas.

Good luck!

It sounds like you are paid a salary and not hourly. What does your contract or agreement say?

Most salary employees can work variable hours for the same pay...its a salary not an hourly pay. If that is your situation and your agreement doesn't say you work 32 hours, then its probably legal.

I would guess that extra half hour is to make up for the half hour your take for lunch so really you were working a 7 1/2 hour day the extrat hour then balances out.
