You talk about obsessions with singers I've never heard of. So if you've met them, it hits me as SO WHAT! I'm 51 and Addicted to bands like Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, Rare Earth, and so on. But the best music of all came from bands like Warrent, Scorpions, Eagles, and so on.

I was born in 1959, but I don't feel old at all. My favorite bands growing up were Chicago, Fleetwood Mac, Elton John and the Rolling Stones. I have a lot of their music on my iPod along with music from Smash Mouth, Nickelback, Avril Lavigne, Matchbox 20 and Coldplay. I like all kinds of music -- rock, metal, country, gospel, jazz, blues. The only musical taste I haven't managed to acquire is for rap. There were bands in the 70's that I never heard of either. Sometimes, I'll hear a song on the radio ... a supposed hit from the 70's ... and not only did I never hear it before, I never even heard of the band before! That doesn't mean you're old! Someone once told me that age is a state of mind and I believe that. My sister is four years younger than me and you'd think she was 20 years older. She totally let herself go and is sour and humorless and complains constantly about everything.

With all due respect, maybe it's worth considering branching out? Music hasn't gotten worse; it's just changed. Warrant, Scorpion, and the Eagles may have held the trophy as the best anthemic rock from the late 70's through the 80's, but what about the punk, avant-garde, R&B, extreme metal, hip hop, etc., etc. that came out during the same time?

Metal music from that era seems to have, since, given way to a modern brand of punk-pop, rap, and acoustic-driven rock, all of which containing their heroes. Many of these artists are perfectly valid, talented, and competent in their craft--be it composition, performance, or production.

I'm 22 and can respect anyone's taste in music--either younger or older--but it kills me to see people claim their taste as superior to others'. It's only music... in the words of Robert Plant, "whatever happened to smiling?"

I was born before men walked on the moon. There are a lot of bands listed in these questions that I've also never heard of & some I wish I hadn't heard of. I have a pretty wide area of musical interests & enjoy all the bands you have listed. While it's great to listen to the "oldies", you should give some new music a chance - some of it is pretty good.

I will be 40 next month....and I feel your pain. The questions (and answers) here are 70% beyond my level of understanding. But, the thing that bugs me more than the music questions is the way these kids write. I can barely read the questions, much less comprehend what they are trying to say.

U no what i mean? i hope dat r skool system is doing all they can 2 combat dat. I mean, dang, man.

I'm 51 and remember herman's hermits, Paul Revere and the raiders, The Temptations; in fact, the first 45 I bought was "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison.

LOL! I'm confused. Rare Earth was a good band indeed, which is why i'm stumped as to why you thought Warrant was any good. Are you just name dropping? cause there were so many other better 80's bands
