I'm not a liberal, and I remain critical of George Bush's mishandling of this war. That having been said, I hope to God this plan begins to work. I think success in Iraq in any small measure helps to buttress the morale of our troops, in particular. I've been paying close attention to these reported successes lately, and though I am very happy that progress seems to be rearing its head, I am also concerned about the same things the commanders on the ground remain concerned about. As General Petrais has said, there can be no military success in Iraq until the politics are brought under control. Also, the commanders are worried that the insurgents who used to occupy the "success" areas have pulled back only to regroup and mount large scale attacks on the small bands of soldiers left permanently in those areas. Also, violence has increased rather than decreased in the outlying areas.

We'd be delighted if _anything_ good happened in Iraq. Those are our guys dying over there, too.
But I'm afraid it's wishful thinking. The body counts from ethnic killings haven't changed much, and it's pretty clear that we're not dealing with what you'd call a mature society over there. I'll believe it when the gunfire stops, but not before.

No but I think Bush's world would come crumbling
down because its so clear that he does not want his
war to ever end...why else is he fighting to stop any
type of deadline to stop killing the innocent iraqi citizens
and our American soldiers...
I guess his daddy STILL doesn't feel safe...afterall
ALL the terrorists LIVE in Iraqi and no
where else, right?
Lame!

Either they would freeze like deer in head lights or they would say that it's all happening according to the new democratic plan since they won congress! Which they never showed to anyone.
