Well, I read a psychology/sociology journal once that talked about this very issue. Its been two years, so I don't remember or even know if I can find the link to it. Basically what it said, was that the reason why the majority of people judge how good a person is by their appearance, and why a person wants to go out with (and eventually marry and have kids) is because attractive people live better. Now, let me explain this a bit. What it means, is that two people of equal skill and ability, would mutually survive in life, when given the circumstances, but if one of them is ugly and the other is considered attractive, then the attractive one will be generally accepted. Also, people are attracted to attractive people because if they are able to have kids with that person, then the chance of one of their kids being attractive, are high. Thus, the kid will be treated better in life since he looks better. Now, this is basic human fundamentals. The most basic goal of man (human that is) is to live and reproduce, so people do whatever it takes to insure that their kids have the best chance at surviving. So if attractive people are treated better, then a person would want to have an attractive kid, so that their chance of living is greater. Overtime, people realize that what a person is like on the outside, might not truly show how they are in the inside, thus we say "its not whats on the outside that counts, but whats in the inside". However, the fact of the matter is that people with the good looks, will be treated better in society. Also, no matter how hard we say we shouldn't judge people by looks, we all judge people by their looks, period. Some do this more than others though, while others do it less than others. Its nothing to be ashamed about, because its human nature. Conclusion: Judging people by looks is human nature. Always have, and always will.
