I would speculate that "stress" is a bigger factor at motivating people further and further away from reality...

The "stress" of being nobody with basically nothing causing them to drift in to some sort of alter reality in order to cope.

Technology may help them drift some.

Does this help any?

I love technology! I'm always amazed as to what human beings can create. I can't wait for the next invention that will help us. However, sadly I do think that most of it is pointless. While I do love my ipod, really what is the point of having one device that holds all of your music AND videos AND photos?
For the most part, I do believe that technology is a distraction for us. (For example, I'm suppose to be doing my homework right now instead of goofing off on the computer.)

I think we were meant to evolve into whatever we evolve into. Technology is just a tool for us. What do you think reality is? If you mean is it taking us away from what we are meant to be, then I would say no. We have the ability to use tools to make life easier, so we do. It is in our nature.

Caveman realities without medecine, industry, agriculture, electricity, specialization, etc is UNREAL to us. No one willingly chooses that "reality".

"We're losing our humanity, though!"

That's bollux. When was the last century that humans were EVER humane? Hundreds of millions died in the 20th century due to technology-- but it also allowed billions to live, to live longer, and live better than ever before.
