It's not a kind answer. You call these people selfish, egotists. They aren't real freinds, at all, when they so easily shift gears when other "more popular" people come around. Shows how really insecure they are and how very little little they are likely to learn from sincere people with something of value or substance to offer. I'd call them a bother , a hindrance, and a past acquaintance.
