not all west malaysians are that ignorant. My best buddies are east malaysians. I never segregate them as east malaysians or west malaysians. we are all the same.. we share jokes and they taught me all the bad words and we had the wildest times of our lives whenever we go partying or just staying home gossiping. i visit their house over christmas and they came over during aidilfitri. My guestroom were never empty as they always spend the night after some scrabble challenge we usually had.
Back to your question, I always thought it is the other way around. Whenever i step foot in Kota Kinabalu or Kuching i always get a stare, I thought the east malaysians didnt like us very much. :) Peace!! So arent we all the same?

I'm west malaysian and I dun look down on east malaysians. In fact, I wan to go there someday on a long visit. But i dun understand why we need our passport to enter Sabah & Sarawak.... I think that is odd since it's malaysia. I understand a lot of their daily necessities are higher priced too.... Like newspapers, magazines, toiletries, etc.... So there is nothing to look down upon.
And the states are so full of culture and nature.

if West Malaysians count Sabah and Sarawak to Malaysia, then that is already a good start... but unfortunately it happens still now, I have had the experience myself, I was asked: "when you finish your studies (in Peninsular Malaysia), do you stay in Malaysia or do you go back to Sabah?" Not only once, and not 30 years ago, that was 5 years ago! Oh, well, Borneo is far away but since people live in trees you should expect everybody to look UP at us... I think Sabah and Sarawak are simply not really well known amongst many West Malaysians. Once they discover Borneo they will never look down at us, that I have experienced, too!

I don't know. I am from Indonesia, their neighbor. But generally I suppose Malaysians (both from west and east) are nice people. I like them. They are good neighbours.

AQ says it all but I still think West Malaysians are more racist than those from the East. Many Sabahan/Sarawakians often tell me how much they missed home and how ill-treated they are in the West/Semenanjung.
Miza Eli, when you talk about Malaysian citizenship, do you know that Malaysians in the East (Sabah/Sarawak) are being profiled differently from those in Semenanjung? You might want to check out their ICs and ask them of the situations they've encountered which involved ICs in Semenanjung if they're from Sabah/Sarawak.
So much for 'Bangsa Malaysia'... your integrity is NOT counted for.

To look down to other just because they born in east Malaysians and grown up there, it's really a sad thing to admit it. For me, as long as we are Malaysians, doesn't matter which part you came from, is what your identity as Malaysia citizen and YOUR integrity is count for. i'm born in Penang and have been to Sabah (kota kinabalu, kundasang, ranau and gunung kinabalu) once, last year. It's so great to been in Sabah, which the local people there is very kind and always give a helping hands to whom need it.
A fren of mine is from sarawak, and it's very nice to knowing her, for her humbleness and friendly to everybody around her. So I feel that everyone from Sarawak it's as just as wonderful like her. Hey, not everybody is perfect rite, so we should 'nt mind to give and take
