Slavery on the West Coast of Africa was run almost entirely by Africans capturing and selling other Africans to white slave traders/.shippers.......and while there was a fair amount of North African......ie Arab/Berber/Muslim participation it was mostly West African ( non- Muslim ) blacks running the show....
now, in EAST Africa it was a 100% Muslim operation.....slavers based out of Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam sending parties inland to capture as well as buy slaves....and then sell them to Arabia , a business that went on up to th 1920's...

Please do not genralise religion or a community into things like this. Every community has people who are good and bad. Basically it boils down to who are in control and that refelects like the whole community is like the controllers. I am sure if at that point Salvery is considered sign of power no matter what, people who love power are going to have slave and will propogate slavery.
We as a society are in constant flux and the values change as we learn more. Currently people with money are conisdered powerful. May be in future that might change and rich people might be considered as bad people. Future generation might think how come one person can keep that much of money to itself while so many people in the world are going hungry. This is just an example, but it can be anything not just money. We cannot judge people from different generation on current values.
Another example will be how come we are allow killing of all sorts of animals for food consumption when we can survive easily with eating vegetables, fruits, wheat/rice/lintels etc.
Ghengiz Khan can be considered as cruel in the current value system, but what he did during his era might be considered heroic in his community.
To put in perspective the recent war in Iraq, fighting in Israel/Palestine, loooks so incomprehensible. People killing themselves to kill other, children are used to kill other children. Kids in normal society at that age are not even allowed to vote are allowed to martyr themselves.
Looke like I am going on a tangent, anyway I think you guys might get my drift. This is a deeper problem then genralizing religion/community/culture.
Peace!

Maybe within their region. I know the Fillipino government sold some to the slavery companys. So it was essentially blacks selling blacks.
