I'm moving to Pueblo, Colorado, can you help me?

hi all,
my boyfriend and i are moving to pueblo in the next few months...he is starting his residency at st mary corwin hospital, and we are looking at houses around the area. in particular, we are looking at minnequa, westside, highland park, and the central high school area.

can anyone help me out by giving me some info on how safe these neighborhoods are, their reputation, and/or any fun facts about pueblo you'd like to share with a newcomer. we can't wait to move from ohio to our dream state! thanks!

ok, two people wrote back in less than ten minutes and neither had anything useful to say...did you read my question at all? i just want specific info about neighborhoods, i could care less about gun laws and the hispanic population.

Megan, I'll apologize on behalf of the other two answers. I know how frustrating it can be.

But now, for some real help. I'm a Pueblo native, still in Pueblo, and I don't plan on leaving! St. Mary Corwin is a nice hospital, but that particular area to live in is less than desirable. In fact, the hospital sits near an area of town know as Bessemer (or Minnequa). This is bar none the worst side of town. Low income, high crime.

The west side can be nicer, depending on the exact area. It's a really different neighborhood. There are some new housing developments near the railroad tracks that are decent. (If you want to live by a blaring loud railroad!) And the country club is not far from that area. I used to live right across the street from Fairmont park and I never had too many problems. On the other hand, the nearer you get to the state hospital the worse the neighborhoods get.

Central high school area is nice, however the homes are old and you'll probably be looking for a fixer-upper. If that's you're thing, then that area is good for you.

I grew up in Highland Park. My parents still live there. It is a nice area. I live now in Regency, which is very near to Highland Park. You may also want to check there.

Some other areas to look into would be South Pointe & Sunset Park. Both are nice areas. South Pointe has some good deals on homes as it is a new area and it developing rather quickly. We almost built a home there.

Farther out you have El Camino & Ventana. These are premo areas with high dollar homes. I don't know where you stand financially, but if you're just starting out in life, this may not be the area for you!

I've lived on both sides of town, and I've always preferred the south side. I can't say why, especially because all the major commerce is on the north side! The south side is starting to develop though. There will be a Lowe's built sometime this year on that south side and it won't be long before other businesses follow them.

But Pueblo is a great town. You can literally get anywhere in 15 minutes. There's plenty of things to do, despite what you may hear.

Different people look for different things in a home. I'm originally from the Pueblo area and would move back in a minute if I didn't have such a good job in Denver. The people are so much more friendly that I'm amazed every time I'm down there because I forget. You'll see people who obviously don't know each other stop and talk in the grocery stores, if you're stopped along the road they're more apt to stop and see if you need help. It's a whole different world. It's a lot hotter in the summer than in the Denver area and the comment above about the cold - well, I'm not sure where that came from unless they're from Phoenix or somewhere like that. Pueblo isn't a very pretty town when you're just driving through but there are some really nice neighborhoods near City Park and then you're close to the reservoir too. There are terrific places in the mountains within an hour of Pueblo. Lake Isabel is a pretty nice place to camp and fish if you're not looking for a wilderness experience, and the sledding there in the winter is awesome. If you are looking for a wilderness experience, you can take the 12 mile hike to the top of Greenhorn Mountain (the locals call it Baldy) near Rye - my home town, YEAH!! The cost of living is less down there and the job opportunities are fewer unless you work in the service type jobs. Like i said, I'd move back if I could and I will one of these days.

colorado is beautiful country, but their gun laws since that columbine B.S. is really ridiculous. It is a growing area (especially within the hispanic community), so crime is something that everyone has to deal with.
