I wish they would tell us this. What is the democrat plan for fighting terror? I assume they will repeal the Patriot Act, eliminate data mining, make law enforcement get court orders for wire taps. What will we do with the terrorist we capture after closing Gitmo? Will they be tried in court? How will we gather evidence and witnesses?

In order to obtain evidence of wrongdoing, it requires an investigation to bring all of the facts together, whatever they may be. That's the way it works from local police investigations to investigations of misconduct by Congress. You cannot begin impeachment proceedings if you do not conduct investigations to determine if there are grounds. I'm not even convinced impeachment is the goal of anyone but those on the far left, who are in the minority of the Democratic Party. Of course Bush and his people are going to call it grandstanding or some such thing - you think the person being investigated is going to welcome the investigation, especially if there is something to hide? If he is not at risk I think he would welcome investigations that would make the Democrats end up looking like fools.
As far as putting up or shutting up, did you miss the news this week about the bill passed in Congress regarding funding and a time deadline for troop withdrawal that Bush intends to veto? This is what those who elected Congress have been waiting for them to do - make a definitive effort to begin changing the face of this mismanaged war. Well, they did it, they stuck their neck out and now the ball is in Bush's court. Shut up? Congress is just getting started.

They are investigating things to find out the extent of wrong doing...it takes awhile for these things to develop. There was absolutely no oversight by the republican congress for the last six years, the dems have only had supeona power for three months...it took about a year for Nixon's crimes to come to light and he fought it every step of the way just like Bush is and will do.
They won't impeach unless they uncover enough to get Republicans to vote to convict also, not like the Republicans and Clinton.
So No it's not time yet for them to "put up or shut up".
They are taking action, they are just getting started. Hearings and supeonas are the first step.

Funny how you should ask that--seeing how Bush and the GOP have been all hat and no cattle these last six years.
But the Democrats are calling Bush out. I'd call that putting their money where their mouth has always been.
These investigations will lead to more subpeonas and eventual impeachments of Bush and his cronies.

Impeachment isn't the best course of action. Forcing the president to handle national and international affairs in a responsible manner is the better option.
Up till now he has had that rubber-stamp republican congress that was too afraid to cross Bush with anything.
Now, that has changed, and they are just feeling each other out.
Impeachment is a silly idea, unless you can somehow force George and Dick out together.

Because impeachment won't work. The Senate would never vote 2/3 to convict. Not in this partisan political climate.
So, if you can't take out the man at the top, at least go after all the other people who have either violated the law, or violated the obligations of their office. So far, that's two people. Libby and Gonzales.
You seem to think that ending corruption in govt is a waste of time. That's really sad,

Democrat's best hope to return to the oval office is to nominate John Edwards, a very intelligent, common sense, proven track record, outstanding experience in the U,S, Senate, and who has something to say, and knows how to say it! Baracka Hussein bin Obama is a fraud and a phony, a good polly parrot at recitation of speils, however doesn't say anything, and has nothing to say, no plan Stan, only a Hollywood rock star popularity contest.

You have to investigate before you can impeach dude, otherwise its a lynch mob. Besides, they have only been the majority since mid January so how could there have been "countless" investigations?? Not too well informed, are you?

Because that is their specialty. That is how they reel in the liberals, with there eloquent speeches and idealistic claims. They are a party of speech, not action. As to the countless investigations targeting Bush or any breathing republican?... Simply a step in their strategy to reclaim the House, Senate, and White House. They are 2/3 there, so apparently it is working. Maybe America will wake up and realize they have had a thick wool blanket smothering them with repetitive and politically motivated rhetoric.

Why are the Republicans so quick to generalize and lump all Democrats into one category? I was halfway expecting to see a "you people" in this post.
