You pay state income taxes to the state of your legal domicile and any states where you performed services for compensation within that state. If the services that you were compensated for were performed solely in your home state, you'll only pay taxes in your home state.

Depends on the states. Do a Google search for Secretary of State for the states you question. That should give you the answer. You will most likely have to file, but whether you have to pay depends on the state. You do know, don't you that you will have to pay Federal taxes on the 1099 income.

Hope you did not have 1099's from just one employer, that may pose a problem for both you and the employer.

This is not to say to rat out your employer, just follow the rules for yourself.

Are you talking sales tax? CA does a sales tax thing, but they have no way of enforcing it.
