You can get a laptop for your birthday if you ask parents that instead of buying gift, they give a gift certificate from an electronics retailer store and you pay the remaining balance with your savings or credit card.

Get a job and apply for a payment plan with the notebook with your credit card.
You might want to get a core duo or core 2 duo with 80-120 GB HD and 1GB - 2GB RAM. As for gaming you should add a 128 MB ATI RADION or nVidia GeForce.
