Your baby was born 2 months early, so gestationally your baby is only 7 months old. So you should go by the 7 month benchmarks. Is your baby a boy or a girl? Girls tend to catch up faster with their age, but remember that each baby develops at their own pace, and benchmarks are set up to be used as guidelines not as telling if your baby is behind or advanced. Some babies are faster then others, but it is normal for babies to be developing differently.

So that said a 7 month old should be holding their head up, rolling from stomach to back, follow a moving object with eyes, wiggles, and kicks. They should be able to sit with support, and roll over. They can hold an object, smiles and laughs. They should be looking at faces and sounds. They may be trying to sit up without help, rock on hands and knees. They may be picking up small objects and transfer them to the other hand. Some may begin to crawl.

I don't know your baby, so I can't tell you what to do. So use what I have said to you as a guideline, and if you are concerned talk to your child's pediatrician. They will be able to tell you for sure.

I think the rule of thumb is that until the child is two years old, he should be doing what an infant should be doing who is 2 months younger. By the age of two, if they are progressing normally without any developmental problems, then they should be caught up with a typical two year old.

He should be sitting up, standing against things possibly...I used to work pediatrics and that was the earliest age I ever saw a baby walk. My child started around 10 1/2 months, but he would stand against things around 8 months.

Your baby is gestationally only 7 months old, so i would refer to age benchmarks for that age. He should be sitting up on his own more steadily and loving peek a boo games. check out parenting .com for a good resource on milestones.
