Listen for the main words so that you will have the idea of what is being said. Do not focus on a word that you could not understand. Focus on what you DID understand and usually you can get the main idea.

If the work is multiple choice then try to read the choices before you hear the speaking. This way you will have an idea of what to listen for. It can also help to jot down notes/key words as the person speaks so that you remember more detail. You really have to use speed writing though.

Learning to listen takes time and not just one day. Like most things it is practice and practice.

I can be in a ctowd of people and be able to pick one conversation to listen to and ignore the others. That does take a lot of practice. Remembering what you hear is not being able to say it back word for word. That is what recorders are for.

The topic and its main points are all that is really necessary to remember. When you are talking you are not listening so keep your mouth shut when you want to hear.
