Yes they can if they are being treated. My brother recently had ringworm and never missed a day.

It really depends on the school's procedures.
My son had a bug bite, but because the nurse thought it was possibly a staph infection, I HAD to take him to a non-emergency care center before he could go back to school. (AND I had to pick him up early.)
Ringworm is actually a fungus (ewww) and although it is highly contagious, and should be covered with more than just bandaids, it can be treated easily.
Go to your local drug/grocery store and pick up miconazole or clortrimazole (a.k.a. Monistat, Lotrimin or Micatin) and apply on the ringworm and on the skin about 1/4" around (and keep covered by gauze).
To try to keep from getting any more- I'd carry around a small bottle of hand sanitizer.
From the sound of it though, I would let the school nurse know that you've caught one from this child. Maybe suggest that the nurse get in touch with the parents and make sure that they know the proper way to care for ringworm- they may simply not know that what they are doing isn't enough.
Whatever you do, don't blame the child; and give the parents the benefit of the doubt. My kids are 5 and 7 and I'm still learning just how much I don't know.

Its best that the child stay at home, because young children like to touch and have contact with each other, but if treated right the child can attend school.

Ring worm isnt that bad when you are older, but as a child they shouldnt go to school because their is alot of contact when you are young.

I would talk to the nurse.
