no you can't look at the sun even when your sun glasses say they are 100% uv protection. the sun glasses protect you from the uv rays damaging your eyes, not from the extreme brightness that will cause you to go blind. and to answer your second question, I've never noticed my sunglasses magnifying anything unless they are prescription sunglasses. and just to put my two cents in.....make sure you can't see your eyes while wearing your sunglasses...it means you have some good protection...and also, when you buy new ones hold them so some light is hitting them, and move it back and forth...watch for some imperfections in the lenses. the light should just move over the lense clearly, and without any waves for lack of a better word.

just a question...not judging you or anything...but why would you want to look at the sun? I understand it may just be curiosity so don't take this as me calling you stupid or anything unpleasant. Any time you look into the sun, you could actually risk going blind, sunglasses or no. Some glasses tend to magnify a little just because the lenses bend around more.

Well I dont think it would be a very good idea to look at the sun no matter how much protection the glasses give you, but it is your decision and your eyes.
Good Luck!

Cheap polarized ones work good . But they should have been made to a standard like the ones in Australia . I buy a brand called Aerial as they are cheap usually less than $20 auD and work just as good as those overpriced Oakleys/Raybans/Carreras.
