There was an episode of the Mary Tyler Moore show that was written on the basis of this very question. Ted (news anchor) was always so cheerful. Mary Richards was hitting a rough spot. She asked Ted how he did it - how was he always so damn happy - his response. was it was all a matter of attitude. He said you could get out of bed, get dressed drive to work and do your job go home and eat dinner go to bed and do it again the next day (this all being said with slumpy body language and a sad tone). He then repeated exactly the same words but smiling and happy of tone. Get out of bed!! Get dressed!!! etc. Life is a matter of attitude. a matter of perspective and if your perspective is letting you seethe "dirt under the couch" then sit in another chair or stand on the other side of the room and look at a better view. Good luck -k-

easy!...stop considering yourself a pessimist...sometimes when we make certain judgments about ourselves, we apply these judgments about everything that we face in life, and this becomes out of control...for example, when you face a problem you think:"OK, i can't do anything about this because I'm already a pessimist so things won't get better anyway"..NO, I'm not gonna tell you to "look at the bright side"..because you're right sometimes it's hard to figure out the bright side of bad situations...just BE REASONABLE when dealing with problems...don't exaggerate, balance your attitudes...try and see, I'm sure it would make a change....

i heard of a story, it goes something like tihs(not word for word), there was once an old indian warrior, he had an only son who is also a warrior, one day the young man captured a fine stallion, everybody in the village came & congradulate the old warrior, saying how lucky to have such a brave son he just smile & said 'may be' they left puzzled, the young warrior, cared & trained the horse, one day while riding the horse, he fell & broke his leg, &everybody in the village came & console the old warrior, saying it's a great misfortune that his son had broken his leg, again he just smile & said 'may be' , not long after that, war broke out with the neighboring tribe, most of the warriors were killed or badly injured, what was left were very old man, women, injured people, & young children in the village, so one day an old woman remarked to the old warrior that his son is now able to lead the tribe, again he just smile & said 'may be' the moral of the story, what appears to be good MAY not be good, & what appears to be bad MAY not be bad,

People don't change unless they want to. Did you ever consider that you're not a pessimist, but a realist instead? Even if you're a true pessimist, I think you should just be happy with who you are and encourage others to look at your pessimism in a positive light. That'll just blow their happy little minds, won't it?
