my chinchilla has something wrong with him and i don't have funds to get him to a vet so i was wondering if anyone has ever had one that has done this? he runs around the cage like he is high on something and knocks into things. he has a three story (which was the cage he was given to me in about a week ago). but he also falls over alot like he's drunk. he tried jumping down from his castle and ended up falling on his head and just stayed that way for like 40 seconds. he does this alot. at one point he did something that i thought seemed like a seizure but at first i thought he was choking on something. then he started falling over and i thought he was dead but then he came out of it and started jumping around. i dunno whats wrong with him? he did that same thing with the seizure before and my mom thought he was gone because when she touched him he was hard and didnt move, then he woke out of it we thought he was just a heavy sleeper. help!

Is impossible to make a diagnosis without seeing him, you really need a vet. Possible reasons you should check for:

Make sure that the feed is dry and not expired. Moldy feed is toxic and will cause neurological signs like these.

Are you giving him good quality chinchilla food? Some vitamin deficiencies, ie. Vit E, will cause signs similar to this.

Bedding: some woods secrete oils that can damage the respiratory tract and make him vulnerable to infections. Because the nose is so close to the brain, an infection of this nature can also cause neurological signs. Mold growing in the bedding is also another possibility. I would take all the bedding and disinfect the cage.

Is he chewing the cage? some cages that are old can be painted w lead-based paint, or black paint also has zinc particles that can also be poisonous to small animals and birds. Is he chewing anything else? old batteries, computer parts, pennies, cables, etc, may contain heavy metals that can poison him.

Can also be caused by old age or endocrine diseases. Only your vet can know about this. Unfortunately, you will need an exotic vet, as most vets wont treat a chinchilla.

I know you said you can't take him to the vet, but this sounds serious and very painful. Is unfair to this poor little guy to suffer.... You should find a way to treat him, or at the very least don't let him suffer like this.

How old is this chinchilla and how long have you had it? What type of cage is it and was it disinfected before you used it?
What type of bedding is your chin on?

This chins does sound like he may have neurological issues. I took in a rescue chin that was stepped on and he had seizures amongst other health problems. If this behavior has happened a few times, a vet visit or at least a phone consult is necessary. Chins hide illness very well and if not caught early enough too many things can go wrong and this chin may end up passing

Adene is an overly smooth title for an overly smooth chinchilla! Also in poor health deliver you a internet site in which they deliver you plenty of chinchilla names! And additionally Adene way soft! Flavio could also be a first-rate title... Hope i helped! Bye

Please , take him to the vet, work out payments if you can. It could be something as simple as an ear infection or tooth infection or be something very serious neurologically.
