We are the most spoiled people on Earth. We go about our lives totally oblivious of the dangers of the world due to the fine men and women like yourself who have or will enlist to protect our country from people like bin Laden, Iran, North Korea, Syria, and the lot.
I think we all remember what happened when we ignored terrorism and responded to the idea of being attacked on our own turf with disbelief. There is nothing to keep it from happening again, save one exception: bring the fight to them.
If we pull out of Iraq, Iran and Syria will no longer have an geographical separation, and they will have control of vast amounts of oil they can use to blackmail Western nations. Kuwait? Saudi Arabia? Jordan? At the will of Hezbollah and Iran.
When the US and other Israeli allies loose their trump card due to our need for oil, it will leave Israel a sitting duck, and open to the kind of scenario this young lady described.
People need to realize that foreign relations, and life in general, aren't cut-and-dry. There is a complex network of cause and effects that happen from one small action.
Islamic fundamentalists have been attacking the United States since the 1970's, and we finally have a President who had some spine to fight back.
The only disagreement I have is that most of our military was left in the garage, to satisfy the likes of CNN, NBC, and other leftist people and organizations. Our forces had their hands tied behind thier back because someone always bemoans the fact that we kill terrorists. American soldiers are dying right now because of news cameras and their mandate that we fight a "civilized" war.

destabilize further you mean?
Dozens of people die in iraq every week, you consider this to be stable?
As for signing up for the military, consider why your going first.
Are you going to protect the country, or be a mercenary for the oil companys?
This occupation is SOLELY about oil. Its about money. If you wanna go to iraq and risk getting shot at so rich people can get richer, go for it, but do not go thinking your saving the world or anything of that nature.
I dont want any more americans killed or maimed JUST so the government can treat them horribly when they get back to the states and cant get proper health care.

Vietnam got better. Yes Cambodia stayed bad as did Laos. But, leaving Vietnam was for the best. The same time has come with Iraq.

What is the plan for fighting terror? I assume they will repeal the Patriot Act, eliminate data mining, make law enforcement get court orders for wire taps. What will we do with the terrorist we capture after closing Gitmo? Will they be tried in court? How will we gather evidence and witnesses?

The Middle East is already unstable. It has been for years. By us staying there, we are only increasing the number of American casualties.

You ask a very intelligent question, and are obviously very brave. I am happy for you that you are planning to marry and start your life, and I hope that that doesn't have to include war, for your sake. You deserve to live your life in peace and love. Good luck and best wishes.

Iraq isn't stable now. Nor is the Middle East.
A US withdrawal will cause no more damage in the region than the US invasion and occupation did.
And it's very like to make the situation more stable, with less people doing the shooting over there.

Some people do think that way. Not all. For some middle east stabilization also does not matter.
