you sun sign is just the tip of the iceberg, there is so much more to be taken into consideration with your natal chart
your sun sign is just a generalisation, not an accurate account of someone
you need your exact time, date and place of birth for an accurate personalised natal chart
The Sun Sign is what most people know without a doubt. It is also (usually) the most obvious part of the personality. The Sun is the conscious self. It is the behavior one is most comfortable with. It is the every day, fair-weather self. But there is much more to you than your Sun Sign...
. when emotions run high....
That's when the Moon Sign comes out. We generally react in emotional situations according to the Moon Sign. This is the primal, subconscious self. You may even fantasize about behaving more like that sign, but it may not feel natural to you unless you're filled with happiness or sadness or anger. The Moon Sign also comes out when you feel very safe - either by yourself or with people you trust.
But what about...
The Rising Sign?
This is the most difficult element of the chart to explain, but may be even more important than the Sun Sign. In a nutshell, it is the Higher Self. You came into this life with one of the 12 signs of the zodiac on the horizon. This sign represents your horizon - your aspirations, what you look for in the world, and what you want to reflect. It is not surprising that much of your outward appearance, or the way you present yourself to others is determined by the Rising Sign, (and also by any planets that were rising when you were born - the Sun, Moon and planets rule the Zodiac - so a person with Venus rising is much like a Libra or Taurus rising, and Moon rising is just like Cancer rising, etc.) We want to attract and bring into our lives that which we aspire to. A Libra rising person looks for beauty, equality and comfort - and his/her natural beauty and charm are helpful in bringing it. An Aries rising individual looks for excitement and new challenges. Her/his look of bold determination and fearlessness is conducive to finding it!
Why is the Rising Sign so important? Once you discover why you have the particular Rising Sign you do, you will be on the road to realizing and sharing one of your most powerful gifts. It represents an important aspect of what you were born to work on perfecting in this life

I think you are looking just at the Sun Sign of your horoscope. Try finding your Moon Sign and Rising Sign, too, as these are also important. Try www.lunarium.co.uk for your Moon Sign. It may help with the rest. Yahoo has horoscope information available, including groups you could join and ask. Also look at the site given as a link here: http://lunarium.blogspot.com/
I think that astrology is like Jungian psychology. You look to symbols and watch for them, note what they mean to you and their greater meaning to others. We can become more insightful through this learning/awareness. We can look for forks in the road and make better choices.
Obviously, not all Virgos are the same. Every one is an individual. That is a huge mystery. Why should ever thing be individual? Then humans try to lump everything into categories and edit it down to sameness. Can't do it! All Virgos are different, but share some common characteristics, or not?

I'm also a Virgo!
and I'm not ANYWHERE NEAR to being the Virgo Perfectionist.
Attention to detail? No, not me.
Neat Room? No again.
Grace Under Pressure? Not always
Picky in Relationships? (that part is very true)
it just proves not to pay attention to Horoscopes, because they will never work for you(or me). The only way they ever work is when you match very accurately to the sign's stereotypes....if you don't, your horoscope result is nothing but funny.

I don't take horoscopes seriously, but they are fun.
But for those who do take it seriously, unlike myself, there may be a reason for not matching your sign. Some people believe that Ophiucus is the 13th sign of the zodiac that people refuse to acknowledge. Signs are based on where the sun was (which constellation) when you were born. For those that believe in the 13 sign zodiac, the dates are changed for each sign. Virgo, in the new date range is Sept 16 through October 30th.

I don't know if that helps you or confuses you more. Sorry.

Emmy D - this may come as a shock to you, but ....
horoscopes are fun to read. Do not take them too seriously. I am also a Virgo. Some of the characteristics for Virgo are mine. Others are not.

Astrology is nonsense, simple as that. It has no basis in reality. It's based on the concept that a vague enough description will apply, to some extent, to everyone, and cause those who want to believe it to focus more on the subject(s) of the description, thus making it appear more credible. Then you've got a lot of gullible people, eating out of your hands, so to speak.

Horoscopes are always wrong. They're just stupid "fortunes" that people make up. You shouldn't believe them. Make your own future.
