Permission, because then you don't even need to ask for forgiveness. If you think you can do something, but then you can't, it's sorta a bad situation, at least worse than it could have been.

Ask for forgiveness. Because if you ask for permission, most will say no. Then you can't do whatever it is. If you go ahead and do it, then you just have to ask for forgiveness, and you might not even need to do that.
