I often get very nervous right when I'm about to read something in front of an audience, and sometimes even mess up really badly during the presentation because of it. Tomorow I have to read something in front of an audience... What are some good ways of overcoming stage fright?

Remember that the only mistake you can make in a performance is to let the audience know you're making a mistake.

And relax. They aren't going to rake you through the coals because you stammered a little. It's not the end of the world.

I've often heard that stage fright or nervousness in front of an audience is nothing more than being unprepared. If you're just reading something and are not an actor, you can prepare by reading it aloud numerous times. Remember to breathe and take your time. Speak slowly and clearly.A clear sign of nervousness is shallow breathing. If you're not taking deep enough breaths you will get shaky. If you want to not have people know you fear being up there, stand firmly, look up several times during your speech and take your time.

If you are acting - it's not really YOU on the stage. If you are the character - there is nothing to be afraid of - right? Get into character. Your character isn't afraid of being on the stage. You are. So don't be yourself. If you don't want to appear a lot different than yourself - because it's not a "play" - it's just a presentation - then just chose a character who sounds like you - but is WAY more confident.

Hope that helps! Break a leg!

When you read it, read to your best friend or mom or whatever. You could talk to a friend at a busy airport without trouble and all those people could overhear you then. This is the same thing. Remember to breathe. If you have notes to read from, mark your notes at the proper places to take a deep breath. When you read pay attention to those marks. They're like little coffee breaks for your mind and soul.

What's the worst thing that can happen to you if or when you speak before a group? Take acting class. What specifically is it that you fear on stage? About 75% of chance you'll get an applaud.

Don't look directly at anyone. Look just over their heads. Also, tell yourself that you won't mess up, Cu's you won't!!!
