If it is a lie told by Christian Fundamentalists, then why are the anime magazines touting it as a tarot deck???

They can be used as a Tarot Cards. In Japan they had a book that told you how to use the Clow Cards as Tarot Cards.
But why should this be something bad?

No, that is a lie spread by Christian fundamentalists to get people to boycott Cardcaptor Sakura. A complete deck contains 53, not 78. They cannot be used in a card game. They do not tell the future nor fortunes, but they can be used to detect the nature of an strange incident
