my mexican redknee started doing something really strange tonight. he's sitting on the ground moving his legs up and down and rubbing them together. it's crazy! is he preparing to molt? Since I've had him he hasn't molted, and he's never displayed this behavior before. I read somewhere that T's pump fluid to their legs to loosen the skin before a molt. Is that what this is? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I know about tarantulas molting, I've had them in the past. I've just never caught one in the act. I just need to know if this leg thing is definitly a sure sign of an impending molt.

Because spiders have an exoskeleton, they have to molt because their skin gets too tight for them. Make sure that your tarantula has water to drink, and don't feed him live prey until he is done molting. A cricket could chew him up until his skin hardens.

Yes, its probably molting. Tarantulas can molt a couple of times per year. If it did indeed molt there will likely be a skin in a couple of days. It's a pretty cool thing to watch.
