If you have already started to dialate and efface (thin-out) then there is no reason that your doctor shouldn't induce if you're past your due date. I was very frustrated with my doctor because we both wanted me to be induced, but it couldn't be done because I had made no progress at all on my own. If you have not started to dialate or efface and you decide to be induced, there is a risk that labor could take up to 4 days and could cause stress on the baby and end up in a c-section delivery or not even work at all. For me, waiting was better then risking it and I did go into labor on my own. It is completely normal for you to go 42 weeks, especially if it's your first child. Just stress your concerns with the doctor and make it known that you're ready. If your doctor does say no, it'll be less than a week and half and you will FOR SURE have to deliver! Good luck!

if he tells you this. Its what he will do he wont back down on it. They obviously want the baby out before 41 weeks. Most doctors dont want you to go over 41 weeks cause of the deterioration of the Placenta. I was just induced at 39 weeks on Friday. I spent 2 days on Pitocin and med to hard labor, but I didnt dilate. They sent me home this morning, Just keep in mind Inducing is not a sure thing and they may have to do it more than once. Good Luck. 2 days of labor with no baby was very very fustrating for me.

I know you are ready to have your baby, but 4 days past your due date is not a long time unless the baby needs to come out for medical reasons. It is often said that the baby can arrive two weeks early or two weeks late safely.
When the doctor gives you medicine to induce labor, it jolts your body into labor and your body doesn't go through the natural steps it takes to prepare itself.
Unless your doc says it needs to come out - let your little bun stay in the oven a bit longer if you can.
All the luck to you and your little one..I wish you the best!

Well, if you're 40 weeks pregnant you MUST have that baby before your placenta gets old and stops nourishing them. THis happens really fast after week 40. I don't think your doctor would not induce labor, he has to know the risk in not doing that, so don't worry and good luck!!!

Why are you in such a hurrry. Inducing labor isn't something that should be done "on a whim". It's not fun believe me. I had one induction & one natural & I'd go for the natural onset of labour any day. It is much more comfortable and gradual.

Well I'm not sure but you are obviously full term so if he changes his mind you could just let him know you want to be induced if he tries to talk you out of it just stand your ground and let him know you are ready to get the delivery going and don't want to wait any longer -end of story - I'm sure he will work with you on it

Tell him you are worried about the baby.
And if he does it get an epidural the pain is worse for an induced labor. And you may not be able to leave the bed.
