path in life
an experience/memory
an emotion
a season
scenery/object/creature/person
a story you made up
hope that helps :) but poetry is basically about expressing yourself and anything that you want to write about, it doesn't matter WHAT your topic is, as long as you're able to communicate the feelings + emotions that are associated with whatever you chose to write about... well, at least that's what i feel when i do poetry. good luck writing your poem!

how about nature?
u can start like: as i woke up in the morning the soft blossoms of early spring fell upon my window.....if you are writing about spring
or a forest: the sounds of a million creatures filled the forest and peirced the damp air....
a beach: the rolling waves crested with white foam gently rose and fell....
sunset: the colors of black dusk melded with the blazing sunset....
i dont know. im no poet. good luck anyways

generally its good to do it on something that you feel strongly connected to...b/c that's what makes poetry so wonder...the fact that you put a bit of you into it...but general topics may be about love, friends, mom, dad, and even life in general...
