My little guy is 7 months old, but since 8 weeks he has had constant chest infections and weekly high fevers. I take him to the Dr. and the ER weekly and they can't seem to come up with an anser. Finally last week someone mentioned that he could be inhaling reflux into his lungs, and giving him the constant infection, is this something that is common? I am tired of getting the horrible looks every time I take him to the hospital with the high fever, but what else can I do?

He's a bit young, but check with an immunologist. The reason I say he is young is that my daughter also had constant infections as an infant & the immunologist wouldn't begin to do tests until she was 1 year old. She was finally diagnosed with a common immunodeficiency - low IgA levels - & food allergies. The IgA antibodies are the part of the immune system that protects the mucous membranes &, prior to 1 year, the infant usually has some levels left over from the mother's body so they can't truly diagnosis it until after his first birthday. If that is the case he can be put on prophylactic antibiotics (low levels daily to try to inhibit infection). They won't eliminate the infections, but they will lessen the severity. Also, kids often outgrow this by the time they are between 3 & 4. They often outgrow the infant food allergies, too. My daughter did & now (at age 9) her levels are in the middle of the normal range - we just got them checked a couple of weeks ago. Don't let the 'you're a crazy new mother' looks get to you - trust in your heart that you know your child better than any MD & it just may take a while to find out what's going on.

Take him to an Ear Nose and Throat Specialist, but also ask them for a basic blood test to determine if he has a low white
cell count. As for the Hospital or Doctor you have seen, I would question as to why they have not taken this more seriously. Call around to other clinics, Hospitals, and definately a pediatric.; but demand answers. Chidren of this age are susceptible to allot of things, and Febral seizure can occur with high fever or constant fever, and also can cause brain damage and long term problems . Do you have a Childrens Hospital in your Town or State? This would be my next step if I did not get help from the other, and if I had to do this, I would Lawyer up at this exact time and File a suit for malpractice and or possible discrimination charges. They can not discriminate for race, sex, origin, or social or financial
standings.

Has he been checked for hypersensitive reactions. Is/replaced into he formulation fed or breast fed. Do you provide him finished milk - if so - end and get him on a soy base formulation until eventually he's approximately 18 months old. because of the fact the tranditional scientific medical doctors can not look to discover something have you ever considered taking him to a naturopathic well being practitioner for an opinion - its nicely worth a attempt.
