The real GOP is trying to distance itself from the current neo-con obstruction of justice that Gonzales has been at the head of the table with.

It has nothing to with his ethnic background, he is a liar plain and simple.
PS It tradtional for the incoming President to replace Federal Attorneys at the beginning of their term, which is where Bush apologists get their "Clinton fired 93 attorneys". Also, all CLintons replacements went through an approval process. The ones fired by the Bush administration seem to have been fired for political reasons, and perhaps even because they were getting close to some further big GOP corruption -- and it is perfectly legitimate for the Democrats to investigate this. They have changed their stories about why these attorneys were fired several times -- it smells extremely fishy.
Also, the attorneys were replaced without a senatorial approval process under a provision of the Patriot Act which makes it smell even more.

Um, it's actually the Democrats attacking Gonzales, not the GOP (although apparently two Republicans have joined in).
As much as I'd like to say, yes, Democrats are once again proving their racism, it wouldn't be honest in this case.
It's a matter of playing politics and trying to further undermine the GOP and the White House. As well, the Democrats feel obligated to try and keep their far-left-wing supporters happy.
Federal prosecuters serve at the pleasure of the president and it is common for presidents to fire them when they feel the prosecuters' agendas/viewpoints don't match the White House's.
Clinton fired something like 93 in one swoop but the liberal media barely noticed and the GOP (who had a majority at the time) didn't raise a fuss.

Because he has been less than honest. The Attorney General needs to be an honest person to do his job effectively.

You don't think the fact that he's been responsible for three major scandals at the Justice Department in under 2 years could have something to do with it?
